Established in 1972 in the neighborhood of University Heights, The Bronx Household of Faith is an urban church in the Reformed tradition and a member of the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference (CCCC). Committed to the authority of God’s Word and to the expansion of Christ’s kingdom, BHOF has sought to be a church community characterized by faithfulness to the Word of God, zeal for the gospel of Christ, and commitment to our neighbors. BHOF established Hope Academy of the Bronx in 2014 to educate, disciple, and equip children and families in University Heights.

The Bronx Household of Faith is a participating member of StreetSchool Network™. The following is from streetschoolnetwork.org:

“StreetSchool Network™ is working nationwide to meet the needs of youth and reduce the high school dropout rate by giving students a second chance at educational success through our national network of schools. Our member schools educate the “whole student” through programs encompassing academic rigor, career preparation, life-skills building, economic literacy and spiritual development.

The StreetSchool Network™ has had a dramatic impact in the lives of those in the at-risk population. Member schools have achieved impressive benchmarks including boosting GPAs by more than 67% (over a student’s previous school experience) and demonstrating a college enrollment rate of 73%. What’s more, schools collectively provide students with more than 80,000 hours of literacy intervention annually to improve their reading and writing skills. Plus, StreetSchool Network™ is helping schools achieve accreditation through Advanced Ed and the regional accrediting agencies. Perhaps most encouraging of all, 85% of StreetSchool Network™ alumni are either attending a college or trade school, are gainfully employed, in the military, or own their own businesses and are successfully contributing to their communities.”

No. Hope Academy is not a charter school. By New York law we must apply for a charter to run a school, as do all Christian and parochial schools; Hope Academy operates as a private Christian school, with a license or ‘charter’ from the state of New York.

‘Charter schools’ are tax-funded, partially independent public schools. Hope Academy, like other Christian schools, receives no government funding, and we are therefore free to educate our students from a consistently Christian perspective.

Hope Academy is a close community of teachers, mentors and students. Our approach to education includes holistic, one-on-one, mentored guidance from day to day. Hope Academy teachers mentor and tutor students on an individual basis whenever and for as long as necessary. Staff visit with parents regularly, encouraging and empowering them to be invested in their children’s education.

Unlike the many private schools which are funded through tuition, Hope Academy relies on the generosity of church members and other donors. Because most of our families are only able to contribute a very small percentage of what it costs to educate their student, outside scholarships are needed in order to make a Hope Academy education accessible to those who need it most.
